Budapest has something for everyone, it's one of the most beautiful capitals in Europe and is rich in culture, history, art and architecture.
Some of the top attractions include Buda Castle, Hungarian Parliament Building Stephen's Basilica, Fisherman's Bastion, The Danube Promenade, Matthias Church, Heroes' Square and the19th-century Chain Bridge that connects hilly Buda district with flat Pest. If sightseeing is on the agenda, you can discover these beauties and more with a guided tour during your hen weekend.
When it comes to getting around, the city has an extensive public transport network and includes buses, trolleybuses, trams, underground trains (Metro) and above-ground suburban trains (HÉV). Buses, trams and trolleybuses run daily from 4.30 am until 11 pm.
The three Metro lines interconnect at Deák tér Station and the HÉV runs to and from Csepel Island and Ráckeve in the south, Szentendre in the north, and Gödöllő in the east.
Tickets or passes must be bought before boarding and are available at Metro stations, tobacconists and newsagents, as well as from vending machines at most stations.
When it comes to getting a Taxi, these are pretty affordable and clearly identifiable with their yellow registration plates and display the company name as well as "City Taxi".
You can expect to pay between 250-300 HUF per kilometre, which works out to be less than a pound per kilometre and 450 HUF (£1.25) as the basic fare.
Bigger taxi companies offer rates lower than the maximum listed above. Most of them have an English-speaking telephone operator, and you may ask them to send a driver that speaks at least basic English.
